Taxi-sharing is when there is more than one person travelling in a taxi, each sharing the same destination but each paying a seperate, DISCOUNTED fare.
What are the Benefits of Sharing a Taxi?
There are many benefits to sharing a taxi, including
- You will save money if you already use a taxi, up to 50% of your current fare
- You don’t have to worry about parking, if you use your own car
- It helps reduce congestion and pollution on our roads
- If you travel on a road with bus and taxi lanes you can save a lot of time too
- You will be taken to where you want to be - no long walks from car parks!
What Sort of Trips are Shareable ?
Taxi-sharing is best used for regular trips such as the daily journey to the station or getting to the airport.
Typical types of journeys would be
- Travelling to work
- Travelling from rural villages to town (eg Ardingly to Haywards Heath)
- Travelling to the airport
- Getting to hospital
- Doing the weekly shop
- Getting the children to school
It can also work for occasional trips such as
- Getting to and from Events (eg Hickstead, Plumpton, Ardingly Show)
- Getting to and from Brighton at weekends

Anyone can use Taxi Share.
The idea is to help people to make the most of the convenience of taking a taxi whilst significantly reducing their personal cost.
Why Share a Taxi Instead of a Car ?
Car sharing is similar to taxi sharing, except that individuals organise an informal arrangement to share the costs of travelling. The individual providing the service is not allowed to make a profit, (which may affect their insurance), although they are expected to recover some of their costs. The advantage of car sharing is that the cost is likely to be less than the cost of a taxi.
However, there are major advantages to sharing a taxi.
- You are not dependent on a single car. With a car share, if the car or driver isn't available on a particular day, you may have a problem. With a taxi, you will always get one from our pool.

Taxis are subject to a more stringent MOT and mechanical fitness regime and the standard of vehicle we use is a high specification saloon.
- Our cars carry £ 10 million public liability insurance, in the unfortunate event of an incident.

Our cars are guaranteed non-smoking; in fact, from July 1st 2007 it will be illegal to smoke in a taxi at ANYTIME, even when it is off duty.
